Our New Chore Chart

This is a follow up to my previous post about our new "coupon system". See this post if you want to read about it, Playing with money. We have now made coupons and laminated them but felt that we needed a more effective way of having the ladies help with the household chores. I have a difficult time keeping them on task and sometimes don't have the energy as well. And with them being "normal" kids they don't just take it upon themselves to help out in the house. These are the things that prompted Ed and I to figure out a way to communicate who, what, where and when; when it comes to chores.

We made a copy of each coupon for every kid and there is all the information that they would need to know how to use it. They are super excited about this one and they are only to be used once a month. They have about 260 "dollars" worth of coupons each month they can use or they can use as actual money. 

We first made a sheet that lists all the chores for the week in the house, then broke them down to frequency (how many times a week), days of the week, and how many "Meserve dollars" each chore is worth. When we had all these things figured out we did a school yard pick on chores. Until they were all picked. The way this is going to work is that each chore has a frequency and the person that chooses that chore has to do it all week long. Everyday they earn the "dollar" amount listed for completing the chore. Easy right?

There is a catch. If you do not do your chore someone else can do it instead and they will get the "money" for it. A parent has to sign off that it's done or the kid has to at least tell the parent they finished said chore for them to get credit for it. If for whatever reason and the chore isn't done and the parent has to tell you more than 2 times to do the chore the parent gets your allowance money for that chore that day.

Every Saturday ans Sunday we will have a small family meeting and re-pick the chores for the following week, so you have the chance to do different things. We figured it out and the girls both will have the opportunity to earn $10 in real money each week or they can use the coupons we made to use some of the money. We'll see how this first week goes and hopefully we won't have a ton of changes this week. Here is an example of a day of chores their worth (remember 1 "Meserve dollar" is worth $.25)

I'm sure there are things that will come up but we are starting on Monday and the kids are more than happy to start, we'll see how much they actually earn and then how much I do. It will be a great way to actually document where the house responsibilities are and even with guidance if they decide the money is worth the work they do.
